According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), seat belts reduce a person's chances of dying in a crash by 50 percent.The Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) and local law enforcement want to remind ALL motorists to Click It or Ticket. Police departments throughout California will be looking for drivers and passengers who don't buckle, including passengers in the back seat. The fine for a seat belt violation in California is now $142. For not properly buckling up a child under 16, fines could be up to $445. Together, we can reduce the number of people killed and injured in California by practicing seat belt use. Keep California roadways safe this year. Always Click It or Ticket.
